Get Ready for Spring Ellie & Mac Blog Tour: Boy Edition – Made for Little Gents

Get Ready for Spring Ellie & Mac Blog Tour: Boy Edition

Pin19ShareTweet19 Shares There’s this sweet book we borrowed from the library a few weeks ago called Sun Bread. Everyone in this book is in a deep funk and depressed because the sun refuses to shine. One baker decides enough is enough, and bakes a bread in the shape of the sun to bring joy back into everyone’s lives. In return, the real sun wants a taste of this delicious sun bread, so she comes out to shine. I and 27 other fantastic sewing bloggers are doing the same thing with spring. Mine is the last stop on the Ellie and Mac Get Ready for Spring Blog Tour hosted by Seams Sew Lo. Spring, we are ready for you to do your thing! If you look through my posts here, you will see most of my creations come in twos or threes (see here, here, and here). Such is the case today! Every time Mr. R gets dressed in one of the shirts I have made for him, Mr. A insists on wearing the same thing. It’s really quite sweet to see their love for each other being expressed through my sewing projects. It doesn’t take that much longer to make the same item twice, and since we are a family of all boys, I know these clothes will be enjoyed once again by their younger siblings. Mr. R and Mr. A are modeling two patterns from Ellie and Mac, the kids joggers and the discoverer tee. These were a delight to whip up. By now I’ve created enough tee shirts and pants that I’m able to whip them up fairly quickly without having to reference the instructions too much. It’s nice to see that all this practicing is actually paying off. 😉 I love the patches on these pants. They help to break up the craziness of the monster print. The same thing is happening with the discoverer tee. Usually I go out and buy fabric specifically for a new make, but this time my boys helped me work through my stash. The monster print was initially purchased from Jo-Ann to make pajamas, and the blue fabric came from a gown I made to give birth to Mr. A in (This didn’t end up happening – he came so quickly he was born in the car!). I have mixed feelings about the combination of these fabrics in one outfit. They feel different from each other. The monster print is a standard jersey knit, but the blue fabric has more of a spandex feel. But when you’re trying to sew from your stash, that’s what you get! All in all, we love the joggers. They’re whimsical, fun, and light, ready for the boys to play all spring in (before they go getting holes in them anyway…). I’m not sure what happened with the sizes though. I measured my boys for the correct size but the waist ended up being way wide. They were able to keep the pants up for the pictures but I need to take the waist in quite a bit for it to stay up. Once that’s done they’ll be perfect! The discoverer tee is cute, but if I’m being honest I’m not a fan of how it looks on my boys. Even though it’s a unisex pattern the style would look better on girls. Maybe if I shorten it and remove some of the flare off the sides it’d help, but I think it’s the straight cut color blocking that gives it the girlish feel. Nice pattern, but I don’t think I’ll make it again for my littles. Thanks again for joining me today!
